BOMBER MEMORIAL

TERRY DUANE TATE ~ Class of 1962
July 8, 1944 - June 20, 2009

Terry Tate

Terry was born on July 8, 1944, in Louisville, KY and passed away June 20, 2009, in Tacoma.

He graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1962. Terry entered into the U. S. Army in 1964, where he served as both enlisted and as an officer. While in the Army, Terry did two tours in Vietnam and was an officer with the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

After an honorable discharge in 1975, Terry began work with the Yakima City Police Department. A hang-gliding accident ended his career as a police officer, though he enjoyed the lifelong friendship of many of the officers with whom he worked. Terry went to work with the Attorney General's Office in Olympia where he was an investigator for over 25 years.

Terry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Arrona Tate; as well as a younger brother, Robert III ('65).

He is survived by his son, Mark; his daughter, Jessica; granddaughter, Kayla; two younger brothers, Jake ('66 honorary) and John ('68 honorary); his fiancée, Pam; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Other than spending time with family, friends and his fiancée, Terry's happiest moments were when he was either fishing or riding his Harley with fellow members of the Blue Knights Washington Chapter II Motorcycle Club or the Harley Owner's Group members.

Terry was in many ways, larger than life and he will be missed.

A Military Memorial Service was held July 11, 2009, at West Hills Memorial Park. A celebration of Terry's life was held at the VFW on 5th Avenue in Yakima immediately following services.
