Jim Spencer

James Homer "Jim" Spencer, 55, died at his home in Port Orchard, WA on June 18, 2000. He was born on August 11, 1944, in Seattle to Homer A. and Alice M. Spencer.

He graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1962 and the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID in 1966 where he was an All-American in baseball. Jim was also a member of the U. S. Pan-American baseball team in 1967 where he won a gold medal beating Cuba in the championship game.

Jim married Joanne Pfohl ('62) on January 10, 1970, in Richland.

He worked for 26 years as an insurance agent with Bratrud-Middleton Insurance in Bremerton, WA.

Jim served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam achieving the rank of sergeant and receiving the Purple Heart.

He coached for many years with the South Kitsap youth baseball leagues and then gave up coaching to follow his son's, Sean's, baseball career with the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners).

His greatest pleasure was watching Sean.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne; son, Sean; parents, Homer A. and Alice M. Spencer of Richland; sisters, Patty Spencer ('71) of Point Townsend, WA and Christy Spencer Peterson ('67) of Spokane.

A memorial service was held June 23, 2000, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association; 4414 Woodland Park Avenue; North Seattle, WA 98103.

Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
