"Fredrick James 'Rick' Smolen was born to Mary Marjorie and Stance Smolen in Oshkosh, WI on July 11, 1944. He passed away at the age of 77 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Grants Pass, OR on February 25, 2022.

Rick graduated from Richland's Columbian High School with the Class of 1962.

After graduation he served three years in the U. S. Coast Guard. He was stationed in great locations such as Key West, New Orleans and Honolulu.

While in Honolulu he met Helen Blakely. They married and settled in Grants Pass, OR. To this union three children were born: Curt, Traci and Leigh.

Rick enjoyed river rafting on the Rogue and Snake Rivers. He also visited many National Parks on his Harley.

Rick will be missed by his family, friends whom he met on his adventures, his Bible Study Group and all who loved his sense of humor and laughter."

Private inurnment took place at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass, OR.
