PAUL "SANDE" McDOUGAL ~ Class of 1962 Honorary
November 1, 1944 - May 27, 1990

Sande McDougal

The following information was provided by Sande's brother, Jim McDougal ('57), on February 27, 2014:

"Sande was born November 1, 1944, in Morgantown, WV to Edna (Johnson) McDougal and Paul Glenn McDougal. He passed away May 27, 1990, in Carmichael (Sacramento), CA only a few months after having undergone surgery for skin cancer on his face. Sande was cremated, and his ashes were sent to Jim ('57) in Renton, WA where Jim co-mingled Sande's ashes with those of their parents. The ashes were then broadcast over the Cedar River.

All during his childhood, Sande was a spirited kid. He played Little League Baseball and golf. He loved to swim and go hiking the desert outside of Richland. He liked to pull pranks and love to tease his younger brother, Jon ('64).

When Sande failed to meet the requirements to graduate with his class of '62 he went to summer school to pick up the credits he needed to finally graduate. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force where he became an Airframe & Engine mechanic for C-141 Globemaster airplanes. He spent time at Lincoln AFB near Lincoln, NE and time at Travis AFB near Vacaville, CA. He also spent two tours of duty in Vietnam. Sande spent a total of eight years active duty in the U. S. Air Force and was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his discharge from the regular Air Force, he became the branch manager of Local Loan Finance Company in Sacramento, CA and joined the Air Force Reserve where he continued his role as a Crew Chief of a C-141 maintenance crew at Mather AFB just outside of Sacramento.

Sande is survived by his ex-wife, Leslie Graham McDougal; his son, Paul Anthony McDougal; his brothers, Jim McDougal ('57) and Jon McDougal ('64); and his sister, Joanna (Jo would have been class of '73 had the family stayed in Richland, but they moved to Mississippi not long after Jon graduated in '64).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna in 1984 and Paul Glenn McDougal in 1980."
