Leon Janin

Leon Fergus Janin, 57, passed away March 31, 2001, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after his 3rd open-heart surgery. He was born May 1, 1943, in Shelbyville, IN to Mary Margaret Hulsman Janin and Leon F. Janin IV.

He moved to Richland in the fifth grade then continued schooling in the Portland and San Diego Military Academies where he graduated Valedictorian. He attended CBC and the University of Washington. He received a Bachelor's Degree from California Coast University and was near completion of his MBA.

Leon worked for 38 years at Hanford and enjoyed his engineering position working on the Vitrificaton Project.

He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Linda Latendresse Janin; his three children: Lisa and Roy Ingram; Virginia Janin Heyer and Jeff Gardiner; and Kory and Kari Janin; four grandchildren: PFC Eric Meyers USMC-Camp Lejeune, NC; Beth Ingram; Trevor Janin and Logan Janin; sister, Louise Brady; stepsister, Virginia Diehl; and his loyal and loving dogs, Otis and Festus.

Leon was preceded in death by his son, Michael L. Janin, on January 27, 1981; and by his best friend, Steve Beightol.

He enjoyed computers, science fiction, rock hunting, car races, collecting guns and knives, and watching the Mariners.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be sent to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.

Memories were shared from 2-4 p.m. on April 7, 2001, at 93702 N. Harrington Road in West Richland.
