Richard Franklyn "Rick" Edwards, son of Frank and Vera Edwards of West Richland; and father of Shannon Cartier of Kennewick; passed away at the age of 59 on March 30, 2003, in Chicago, Illinois. Rick was born on March 6, 1944.

In 1962, Rick graduated from Richland's Columbia High School. He attended Columbia Basin College in Pasco before serving in the military.

While in the service in Germany, Rick acquired his private pilot's license. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Commissioned and Warrant Officer.

Upon returning to the States, he flew for Hanford, Cascade, Elgin and others.

He flew internationally as chief corporate pilot for Smurfit-Stone Container Corp of Chicago for fourteen years prior to his illness.

One of Rick's greatest joys was singing and playing lead guitar in his country and western band, Chestnut County.

Richard is survived by his mother, Vera Edwards; his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Curt Cartier; his sister, Gay Edwards ('64) of Spokane; his grandson, Cannon Cartier; and his fiancée, Babette Gronkiewicz of Chicago.

Rick's sunny disposition and witty humor will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on April 12, 2003, at Bethany United Protestant Church on West Van Giesen in West Richland, WA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Church or the church of your choice.
