BRUCE ALAN EDWARDS ~ Class of 1962
October 12, 1944 - August 28, 2017

Bruce Edwards

Bruce Alan Edwards was born October 12, 1944, in Richland to Earle and Dorothy Edwards. Bruce died suddenly at his home in Ocean Park, WA at the age of 72 on August 28, 2017.

He was born and raised in Richland. He graduated with the Class of 1962 from Richland's Columbia High School. Bruce attended Columbia Basin College followed by Eastern Washington University. While attending Eastern, Bruce met the love of his life, Susan Smith. They married on June 10, 1967, in Cheney while he was serving in the U. S. Army, and they had two children. After an Honorable Discharge from his service in Vietnam, Bruce and his bride moved back to Richland.

Bruce had a successful career at the Benton County PUD and ultimately retired as Treasurer in 2003. They later settled in Goldendale, where they made wonderful friends in Ponderosa Park. He and Susan spent several magical years exploring the USA in their motorhome. They especially enjoyed visiting their grandsons in Virginia and watching them play football.

Susan lost her battle with cancer in 2014, which was devastating, especially for Bruce. He recently relocated to Ocean Park, WA to be closer to their daughter and her family.

Bruce was a lifelong active member of his community. He was President of Richland Little League for years, a Rural 7 volunteer fire fighter in Goldendale and he regularly supported Trout Unlimited, just to name a few. He enjoyed photography and fishing, and he could not resist a good debate.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Susan Edwards. Bruce is survived by their daughter, Devonna Edwards Rowlette ('86) (Dave) of Ocean Park, WA; son, Brian Edwards ('91) (Tracy) of Fredericksburg, VA; five grandchildren: Derek Chartrand, Danielle Chartrand, Alana McCord, Trevin Edwards and Brycen Edwards; sister, Earlene Edwards Sullivan ('58) of Goldendale, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family held a Celebration of Life at the Goldendale Grange at 228 E. Darland in Goldendale on Sunday, October 1, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
