ALLAN MARSHALL "AL" COFFMAN ~ Class of 1962
September 13, 1944 - February 9, 2023

Allan Coffman

Allan Marshall "Al" Coffman was born September 13, 1944, in Kearny, NJ to Raphael and Mildred Coffman and moved to Richland in 1947. He passed away in Kennewick at the age of 78 on February 9, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Robinson Coffman ( '65); and their three children: son, Scott ('85) and (Susan Nelson) Coffman with grandchildren: Logan, Cory and Alicyn Nelson and great grandchildren: Taylor, Drake, Gracyln, and Haiden; son Corey ('87) and (Heidi) Coffman with grandchildren: Mac, Maggie, and Kristo; and daughter, Kristin Coffman ('88) and (John Wells) with grandsons, Charlie and Henry. Allan is also survived by his brother, Richard ('60) and (Carol) Coffman and sister, Ann Coffman ('66) and nephew, Michael.

Allan suffered a major stroke in February 2023 from which he never recovered. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Guardian Angel Assisted Living Facility and Chaplaincy Hospice House for their care and support during dad's final days.

He had fond childhood memories of running in the mean streets of the Farrell Lane neighborhood in the 40s and 50s, graduating from Richland's Columbia High School with the Class of 1962. He was a self-taught electrician by trade. He enjoyed a successful career working at the Hanford Site in various roles over the years. Allan was a member of the IBEW Local 112 union. He was an instructor in Electronics Technology at Columbia Basin College early in his career, as well.

Allan was an expert in all things electronic from technical tools and machines of his trade to TVs, video recorders, game consoles, etc. He channeled this passion into a business, opening the Tri-City Video Supply in 1979. While keeping his "day job" as an electrician, he would head to the store in the evenings where he helped educate the public about the new invention of the "video recorder". He sold many TVs, video cameras, and VCRs over the years. He enjoyed videotaping many of the sporting events his children participated in while growing up.

He enjoyed playing the guitar on the porch during warm summer evenings, building and flying remote-controlled model airplanes, and BBQing for the family. Retired since 2006, he enjoyed spending his golden years with his wife, Linda, as well as helping his grandkids with projects that usually had "some assembly required".

His urn was placed at Sunset Memorial Gardens on February 21, 2023.

There will be a celebration of Allan's life on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Anthology Event Venue at 706 Williams Blvd, Richland. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Chaplaincy Hospice House in Allan's name.
